  What it supports here:

  • A tire should be replaced once the tread is worn down to 2/32 of an inch.
  • Tread is worth checking at least once a month, at the same time as pressure.
  • Tires carry moulded treadwear indicators; when tread is level with them the tire is done.
  • The penny check: insert a penny with Lincoln's head upside down, and if the top of his head stays visible the tire needs replacing.
  • Correct inflation pressure is the figure on the vehicle's door placard, not the number moulded into the tire sidewall.
  • Pressure must be read cold, meaning the car has stood at least three hours.
  • The spare should be checked along with the other four.

  Put Safety at the Top of Your List When Decorating this Holiday Season

  Cuts and puncture wounds

  What it supports here:

  • Call emergency services if bleeding is severe or has not stopped after ten minutes of pressure.
  • Contact a health care provider if a wound is more than a quarter of an inch deep, is on the face, or reaches bone, because stitches may be needed.
  • Bites, wounds from rusty objects and wounds with debris stuck in them need professional attention, and embedded objects should not be pulled out.
  • Warmth, redness, throbbing, fever, swelling, a red streak leading away from the wound or pus-like drainage all point to infection.
  • A provider should be contacted if there has been no tetanus shot in the last ten years.
